Some Scatters (Upper Level)361 viewsI have layed some scatters on the layout aswell.
Here is the area around the upper river. There will be a series of trees around here, and so the grass is slightly greener as the trees incourage the grass to grow.

An how to of laying Scatters442 viewsWhat will you need:
-Pipette: 1 or 2 ml.
-Old soft brush (Large, as will be used to apply glue)
-PVA Glue
-White wood glue
-Fine mist sprayer (can get these for a couple of £ - nothing fancy)
-Woodland Scenics Scatters, 2 to 4 colours depeding on the scene. The ones i used are:
--Blended Turf: Green Blend (T49)
--Fine Turf: Burnt Grass (T44)
--Fine Turf: Yellow Grass (T43)
--Fine Turf: Earth (T42)
But other combinations could be used. You will need more of one as it will be a base colour.

An how to of laying Scatters175 viewsHere are the 4 I used. I'm using yellow as my base. I have a second bag of it stored away.

An how to of laying Scatters182 viewsStage 1 - Basecoat
Step 1: First of all, cover the entire area with black paint, this will add to the colour.
An how to of laying Scatters182 viewsStep 2: Second, apply a layer of PVA glue across the area to be scattered. You can do the area in sections if you wish (If yo plan to do this, read the notes later on).
An how to of laying Scatters182 viewsStep 3: Next, Sprinkle a layer of scatter, the base scatter you chose earlier. You will need to then use your fingers to gently press this layer into the PVA glue
An how to of laying Scatters182 viewsStep 4: Finally, using the the sprayer, spray the scatter with tap water from about 6" (15cm) away (You can add a little washing up liquid if you wish, though it is strictly not neccessary). Cover all of the scatter.
An how to of laying Scatters182 viewsStage 2: Middle Layer
Step 1: The next step is to sprinkle a your other colour of scatters on top of the base layer. Put more of one colour in one area than the others to add colour variations to the scene.
Step 2: Then you will have to once again spray with water the scatter - this time from about 1' (30cm) away so as not to disturb them, making sure you thouroughly cover the scatter with water - though dont go overboard.
Step 3: You can scatter on small bits of gravel, and foliage if you wish
An how to of laying Scatters182 viewsStep 4: Finally, Mix some White Wood Glue with water at about 10 parts water to 1 part glue. Using the pipette from about 1/16" (2mm) above the scatters, empty the entire pipette onto the scatters (slowly so as not to disturb them). You will see the white glue/water mixture spread out rapidly over the scatters. Repeat this step until you can see clearly a small amount of white/grey on all areas of the scatter.
An how to of laying Scatters187 viewsStage 3: Final covering
Step 1: Before the glue from the previous stage has dried, sprinkle on a thin final layer of scatter [You can add varying colours of scatter to the grassland]. This layer will soak up some of the glue from before and stick itself to the layout.
An how to of laying Scatters185 viewsStep 2: Finally, just lightly mist the scatters with tap water. This will help the glue draw up into the top layer, and stop the scatters blowing away while they dry.
And there you have it. Leave for 24 hours to fully dry, and you will have one well scattered, realistic area
