Scenery Has Started434 viewsI have begun work on the scenery of the layout. As such i have started in the Later Pictures category.
The first peice of scenery is that of the powerstation of the previous layout.

Through the Powerstation192 viewsThis shot shows the route the track will take into the powerstation. It will then exit out of the back, as can be seen from the purple line. An hole needs to be cut through the back for the hidden return line.
The Rear of the PS218 viewsThis is where the track will exit. The whole back of the powerstation will be buried in the scenery, so this hole doesn't need to be neat.
The Water Feed408 viewsLike on the tipple layout, the powerstation will have a water feed. This time it will come in above the extension/office area, and will be fed by the river (if it were real that is)
The First Peice of Track210 viewsI managed to aquire a pair of New Code 55 slip switches for £30, which has saved me quite a bit on the £54 it would cost from a store.
Here we see the Double Slip in position. There will have to be a track bed as the foam is not carved flate enough - hence why some has been carved out here. Holes have also been made for point motors.
Slip from Above188 viewsA shot of the Slip-Switch from above, aaargh, you can see right through the earth - We now know that the Earth is flat.
Into the Mine199 viewsHere is where the other slip switch resides. It can just be seen in the distance.
From Below205 viewsA photo taken up through the hole carved for point motors. The holes are alot deeper than they need to be for wiring purposes.
More expanding Foam189 viewsThe area directly behind the powerstation has been leveled off to make part of the hill area and to level out the powerstations base
Part of the Front Hill187 viewsI have done part of the front hill as it can be made without making track laying difficult.
The Rear of the Powerstation201 viewsAfter carving an hole in the back of the powerstation, I have attached a foam block which will be used to support the substation which will be kitbashed on to it.
In position187 viewsHere we see how the foam block and hole in the powerstation line up with the hill formers behind.
And Now, Straight Through187 viewsThe track can now be layed straight through the powerstation to the hidden return line.
An Attempt at a River Bed205 viewsI have attempted to make a river bed by glueing fish tank sand onto the river. However i think this looks terrible, and all I have acheived is a solid block of sand paper that i cant cut through >___<
The Front Hill203 viewsI have carved the expanding foam into the approximate profile of the front hill.
Moved Back190 viewsThe powerstation will be now loacted further back than originally planned (as seen here) due to the curves of the track being too tight originally.
The New River Bed193 viewsI have redone the river bed, and am now alot happier. This time the bed has been done with sandstone from the garden which has been smashed up to form jagged rocks, and fine sand which look as a proper river bed would. Much better start to the scenery
The New River Bed206 viewsThe sandstone mix was spread out into the gorge and then a channel brushed through. The whole thing was then sprayed with watered down glue to bind it all together.
The Culvert230 viewsThe sand/stone mixture has been glued into the lover culvert to hide the foam inside.
The New River Bed187 viewsThe upper river has had the same sand/stone mixture. The waterfall still needs doing though.
